It’s Tuesday. There are still the remains of trashy food, booze and 30th birthday balloons roaming around our house like the last guests to leave the party. I turned 30 on Thursday last week and have spent the last 5 days wringing that sucker out for all its worth.
It started when my big bro and sister-in-law came over from Cardiff on Wednesday. Dave and I had been fragile with a bit of a tummy bug at the beginning of the week so it lifted our spirits to have them here. Unbelievably, it’s the first time in 10 years I’ve spent my birthday with any of my immediate family – ah the curse of globalisation!
Levi adores his Auntie Ands & Uncle Tim so they had lots of quality time.
We had a gorgeous brunch together on Thursday (my actual bday), facetimed the parents in Canada, opened pressies and packages that arrived in the post and even though it was the wettest most miserable day weather-wise, I even managed to make it to my pilates class. My phone was hot all day with messages and calls from friends all over the place – birthdays are just lovely eh? Thanks to everyone for making this old bird feel a bit special for a day.
Dave arranged a 90’s themed birthday shin-dig for friends on Friday so I rolled up my socks, ‘Clueless’ style, threw on a ‘Saved By The Bell’ t-shirt, locked on a super-90’s choker (that is actually so hideously 90’s that the cashier at the charity shop threw it in for FREE), rubbed some lilac eyeshadow on my lids and rolled my fringe back into a hairband. We ate whizz fizz and sherbet dip-dabs and grooved to Backstreet Boys, Boyz-2-Men and Spice Girls. It was lovely to see lots of friends (and their especially lovely 90’s fashion) and I rolled into bed happy as a lark.
Sorry for the rubbish i-phone pic but SERIOUSLY. Look at that fringe.
Sadly the tummy bug caught up with my bro on Friday night 😦 so he and Andrea had to stay housebound while Dave and I headed off to my final birthday celebration. We rented a lovely big house in the country outside of Enniskillen with some of our favourite people and spent 24 hours laughing, eating, talking about our dreams and getting very wrinkly in the hot-tub. It was completely relaxing and the perfect way to bring the big 3-0 festivities to an end.
Crazy huge 10-man hot tub. GLORIOUS.
These 3 babes are all pregnant so I had to brave the tub with the lads by myself. Such beautiful, thoughtful pals.
So far so good, thirty. Bring it on.
