A rant about Katy Perry

I’m gonna hop straight to it.  I’m furious with Katy Perry.  If I met her up the town, I’d drag her into my car and give her a serious talking to.

You see, a couple of days ago Katy Perry walked the red carpet for the Much Music Video Awards.  A massive music awards show in Canada similar to MTV.  Instead of walking it alone she was joined by 8 little girls who were all dressed like the different characters Katy plays in her music videos.

Cute right?

WRONG.

The one in the blue top – yeah she’s reenacting Katy in the video for California Girls where she sings:

Sex on the beach
We don’t mind sand in our Stilettos
We freak in my Jeep
Snoop Doggy Dogg on the stereo

…and then the role model rapper of the year Snoop follows that bit of the song with…

Homeboys
Hangin’ out
All that ass
Hangin’ out
Bikinis, tankinis, martinis

And then all the men in the video oggle at the girls, and whipped cream comes shooting out of her cupcake bra like a pathetic ejaculation innuendo.  Awesome.

One of the other little girls is dressed like Katy from her Teenage Dream video where she gyrates her boyfriend on top of a car and then it shows them getting down and dirty in the motel bedroom as she sings:

Let’s go all the way tonight
No regrets, just love
We can dance, until we die
You and I, will be young forever

Seriously though!  I’m so SICK of the popular music scene and the influence it is having on children and young people.  I’m SICK of girls not feeling good enough, pretty enough, fashionable enough because of the ridiculous portrayal of women in the media and ‘role models’ who have no sense of responsibility or self-respect.  I’m SICK of attention they’re given, the accolades they are given and the lack of accountability of celebrity culture in general.

I’m also mad with Katy Perry’s team – How dare they even suggest that these girls dress like that and escort her in public down the red carpet of one of the worlds most publicised events?  And who are the parents of these girls?  Do they not understand how precious and innocent their children are to have them paraded like barbie dolls to be scrutinised and associated with such explicit sexuality?

Somebody’s is SOOOOOO getting a letter.
